Hulst Homestead
I am so excited to announce that my husband and I have purchased our first home together! It is the most charming little brick farmhouse with a small backyard farm located in West Michigan. We have already fell in love with the land and the home as we begin this journey of giving our place a new life!
BEFORE:
THE INSPIRATION AND VISION
The best way I can describe the look and feel of the house is farmhouse boho. there will be lots of creamy colors contrasting with metallics and pops of bright greens, pinks, and oranges. The house will also feature dark black stainless steel appliances with a complimentary steely blue accent color going along the cabinetry and some accent walls. Throughout this process our goal is to repurpouse as much as possible and keep the thought of sustainability at the forefront. We plan on refinishing the existing flooring, repurposing old cabinetry, and utilizing stores such as Habitat for Humanity Restore and Ditto as much as possible.
PROGRESS
It is finally beginning to look like a house! Drywall is in final stages and then we will tackle painting and refinishing the original hardwood floors.
Beautiful original floors sanded and ready for stain and sealant
Kitchen cabinets and countertops are being put in and painted
|
Finished floors all throughout the house and we are ready to start with the fixtures
Cabinets are finished and the skin has been placed and installed
|
Brick backsplash installed and whitewashed to add in texture
We are in love with how the cabinets and countertops turned out.

I was approached by the Central Avenue Care and Maintenance Committee and asked if I would be willing to come on board as a partner in this remodel project. Below you can see the before photos, my proposal and renderings, and then some process work. The project is to be completed by September 1 2016.
