Hulst Homestead

I am so excited to announce that my husband and I have purchased our first home together! It is the most charming little brick farmhouse with a small backyard farm located in West Michigan. We have already fell in love with the land and the home as we begin this journey of giving our place a new life!

THE INSPIRATION AND VISION

The best way I can describe the look and feel of the house is farmhouse boho. there will be lots of creamy colors contrasting with metallics and pops of bright greens, pinks, and oranges. The house will also feature dark black stainless steel appliances with a complimentary steely blue accent color going along the cabinetry and some accent walls. Throughout this process our goal is to repurpouse as much as possible and keep the thought of sustainability at the forefront. We plan on refinishing the existing flooring, repurposing old cabinetry, and utilizing stores such as Habitat for Humanity Restore and Ditto as much as possible.

PROGRESS

Picture
We have removed the ONLY bathroom (see square indent on floor) in this 5 bedroom home and we are now relocating it closer to the side entry door.

This used to be the kitchen... everything is now gutted!

You can see our new open entry! We removed a wall (where the line on the floor is) and have expanded the grand entry space that now spills into the front porch.

Here used to be the main level master. Since then we have taken off all of the plaster and we have taken out the studs you see. We have replaced that load bearing wall with a thick overhead beam! bye bye walls!

Adding in plumbing to the second level.

We could not have done all of this work with our awesome support group of family and dedicated friends who show up every Saturday to help us work on our dream home.

It is finally beginning to look like a house! Drywall is in final stages and then we will tackle painting and refinishing the original hardwood floors.

Finished floors all throughout the house and we are ready to start with the fixtures

We are in love with how the cabinets and countertops turned out.
